Max Calloway

Research Analyst

Max Calloway joined NRC in 2022 as an Associate Partner. Max specializes in collaborative submerged aquatic vegetation conservation, monitoring, and recovery projects. He is a recognized expert on kelp biology and ecology in Washington state and has participated in several Washington Department of Natural Resources eelgrass monitoring and restoration projects. He has been responsible for conducting research into local, state, federal, tribal, and international fishing, aquaculture, and ESA related regulations and policies. He drafts natural resource management recommendations based on best-available-science. He has conducted extensive analysis of fisheries and aquaculture activities in Canada for the development of a guidance document on location and retrieval methods for abandoned, lost, and discarded fishing and aquaculture gear. He regularly organizes and facilitates scientific meetings and workshops.
