Natural Resources Consultants was recently awarded a $165,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for the survey and removal of derelict fishing nets from areas of historic derelict net accumulations in Washington waters of the Salish Sea. This project will not only remove a source of harm to marine species, habitats, and fisheries, it will also provide important data to evaluate the effectiveness of the current lost fishing net Reporting, Response, and Retrieval program.
