Lost Fishing Gear Removal Management
NRC manages large-scale at-sea operations to locate and remove lost fishing gear. In Puget Sound, NRC worked for the Northwest Straits Initiative to manage multiple vessels over several years to ultimately complete the removal of over 5,500 remnants of lost gillnets and over 4,000 lost crab pots. The work included pioneering location and diver removal protocols as well as developing state-of-the art data collection procedures and database management. NRC manages the rapid response and retrieval of lost fishing nets reported by fishers in Puget Sound for the Northwest Straits Foundation.
